The Elegant Mindset: How A Week of Luxury Travel Shaped My Perspective on Elevated Living

Traveling has a way of inspiring us in many ways. Through the environment we find ourselves in, the meals we eat, the conversations we have, and the surroundings of music, decor, and style that’s all around us. Last week I traveled to Costa Rica and while this is not my first luxury vacation of staying at a high-end hotel, it is the first time that I traveled to a resort for a week with no excursions and no plans to leave the property. By being in a luxurious setting and having plenty of time on my hands (in a good way), I was able to do an inspired and elevated lifestyle audit.

It gave me time to be introspective about my lifestyle back home in Raleigh in a way that was clearer than when I am in my everyday routine. When we are home our brain is on an autopilot being driven by cues and routines that are built within us. When we step outside of those cues and routines we are able to look at them more objectively and analyze them. While there are some action items that I want to keep for myself only, there were many epiphanies that I had that have really elevated my mindset and I wanted to share with those who also appreciate elevated thoughts and ideas.

The luxury travel was not only relaxing, beautiful, and worth the investment, but because of its slower pace and time to be introspective, we decided that we would make this trip annually in January or February every year as a new year refresh. Next year I plan to pack my journal with me as I was taking notes mostly in my notes app. Here are some of the notes I took that have created a more elevated mindset moving forward throughout the year.

-To live luxuriously, don’t just romanticize life, romanticize the details of everyday life (there will be a blog post on this next week).

-Self investment is essential as appearance, health, and lifestyle are all reflections of your inner values. Treat them as assets.

-Wherever you are a year from now is a reflection of the choices you make now…choose intentionally and impeccably.

-Your mindset must arrive at the destination before your life does. Keep your thoughts at the highest standards.

-Every space should inspire you to live a more elevated life. Everything from the home, the office, the car, the places you shop, dine at, stay at, and visit.

-Cultivate peace, wellness, and moments that make life feel effortlessly indulgent and luxurious.

-High quality standards will protect you from low quality experiences, places, and things.

-True luxury is living with meticulous intention, surrounding oneself with beauty, and choosing ease over excess.

-Discipline isn’t arduous, it’s sacred. Routine is a mirror of your self respect and your commitment to living luxuriously and beautifully.

-Luxury is not static, it evolves. The ability to be discerning and pivot gracefully is part of what makes life feel so beautifully lived.

-Luxurious living starts with how you direct your attention and energy. You are what you cultivate when no one is watching. Be very intentional about what you think, read, watch, follow, eat, wear, and how you show up.

Everything listed above can be summarized in one thought, to attract better, you have to think better. You can’t have the same thoughts and do the same things and expect change. Elevate your mindset. This will help you to upgrade your habits, stay consistent, and move into the next elevated evolution of your lifestyle.

  1. Love these! I especially love these two:
    – Wherever you are a year from now is a reflection of the choices you make now…choose intentionally and impeccably.
-Your mindset must arrive at the destination before your life does. Keep your thoughts at the highest standards.

It’s so true that the quality of our life is built in our decisions and our identities. Where you are currently is a reflection of choices you’ve made in the past. Where you will be in the future is a reflection of choices you make in the present.

And I’ve really listened to and read so much content about how changes start with identity changes first. Want to be a runner? Start thinking of yourself as a runner and do the things that runners would do and eventually you’re a runner!

I just recently started the 100 Day Project which is 100 days of making something creative every day. Instead of picking a specific genre to make I’m just making anything I want. But creating. I’ve been doing more consuming that I would like to these days and I think getting back to feeling creative and creating versus consuming will help me level up in ways I don’t even know yet.

Welcome back from what looks like an amazing and thoughtful trip!

    1. Thank you so much, Beth and I’m so happy you enjoyed the post 😊 It sounds like you’re really enjoying being creative and 100 days sounds like a great challenge too! We often have vague ideas of what we would like life to look and feel like and getting very clear about those thoughts and showing up for them is the only way to make it happen. The trip for sure gave me so many good epiphanies on life and how I got to where I am as well as how to keep creating for my future self too 🤎🤎
