The Small Ways I Romanticize The Holiday Season

As the year winds down and the air grows cold with winter’s arrival, the holiday season truly invites us to slow down and see the world through a more delightful lens. It’s a time when twinkling lights turn ordinary streets into something magical, and even the smallest traditions feel like anchors to something warm and familiar. Romanticizing the holiday season isn’t about creating a picture perfect experience, it’s about choosing to savor the moments that make this season so enchanting, even in the smallest ways.

I love to romanticize the holiday season every year in small ways that are both budget friendly and easily incorporated into what I already do in my daily life. While the bigger moments of putting up the Christmas tree, wrapping gifts, and decorating the house are all part of the experience, these events are usually singular events and I like to incorporate the holiday magic into my daily life all month long and I hope you enjoy reading about the small ways that I romanticize Christmas to create even more enchantment to savor throughout the season.

One very simple way that I romanticize the holiday season is savoring the seasonal drink flavors. I am currently enjoying creating a warm peppermint mocha in the mornings as well as sipping on this Bakeshop Bliss tea flavor that I purchased at Anthropologie. It’s a small, pleasurable way that I enjoy the holiday season all month long.

Because I am an avid reader one way that incorporate the holiday season more into my daily life is through books. I always purchase 2-4 books each year to enjoy through the month of December. Whether it’s a beautiful coffee table book, an inspirational book, or engaging novels, having seasonal reads helps me to romanticize the season in my personal love language…through books.

I love to experience the seasons through all my senses and scented candles is a delightful way to enjoy the many scents of the season. My personal favorite scents for this time of year are Christmas Tree scents, wood fireplace scents, and spicy cinnamon scents. I light the candles as often as possible and romanticize the simple pleasure they add to any moment.

I do love a seasonal cups for coffee and tea and the season just feels a little more enchanting when I get to enjoy a favorite drink from them.

A favorite holiday tradition for me is to pick a cold December day and bake a batch of Christmas cookies. This year we got very lucky and had a small snow day, so I baked iced gingerbread cookies. It’s a small way to romanticize the season to cozy in and bake something delightful as well as being able to savor them for a few days too.

And speaking of treats, ’tis the season for all things delicious and one small way that I romanticize the season is to simply enjoy my little treats right by the Christmas tree. Whether I am reading a book, watching a movie, or simply relaxing and enjoying the some Christmas jazz music, enjoying a small treat by the tree is such a delightful way to enjoy these small moments of pleasure.

If you’ve been around awhile then you already know I love to enjoy a good hobby at home. So incorporating the holidays into my hobbies is an easy, small way that I romanticize the Christmas season. I love to bake holiday cookies, read seasonal books, work on a holiday themed puzzle, and enjoy coloring in a holiday themed coloring book.

I mention this every season, but that is because it is truly one of my favorite small ways to romanticize the season. I live in an area that is very walkable and has some of my favorite shops like Sur La Table, a bookstore, and many cute little boutiques and I love to visit them all year round really, but especially during the holiday season. I love to see how they decorate and what they bring out every season. It’s a small way to be delighted and inspired every year.

One of my favorite simple pleasures in life is simply a delicate chocolate truffle. I will savor them with a cup of tea, or while I am reading a book, or even as an after-dinner nibble. So when there is a box a of holiday truffles available to purchase I always get them. This year I was able to pick up a box of French Broad Chocolate’s holiday truffles and with flavors like candy cane, gingerbread, hot buttered rum, and spiced orange, it was simply a wonderful way to romanticize the season.
